The fishing boat “Onega” sank in the Barents Sea on the Russian side near Novaya Zemlya in Arkhangelsk early Monday morning when it was fishing.
There were 19 Russian citizens on board the ship when the accident occurred. Two people, a helmsman and a sailor, survived after being picked up from the water by another ship.
The remaining members of the report are missing and are presumed dead.

There must have been bad weather, heavy wind, high waves, and temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees when the wreck occurred.

The Russian Crisis Ministry first reported that the accident was likely caused by icing on the ship, but on Monday afternoon they said the accident occurred in connection with the crew pulling the net.
According to Interfax, which cites sources close to the survivors, the ship must have sunk quickly.
– The disaster happened quickly when the crew raised the net with the catch. They all wore wetsuits, but no one managed to use rescue equipment. People were literally dragged off the deck and into the sea.

Despite the fact that all missing persons are believed to have died, five boats were dispatched to search for more survivors. On Monday night, search teams discovered a dead person, according to the Tass news agency.
