Ropstad questions whether asylum seekers will be picked up in Moria

In April, the KrF national board approved a lawsuit to pick up the children from the Moria camp on the Greek island of Lesbos. On Wednesday, it was announced that the government will pick up 50 asylum seekers from Greece. They can also come from camps other than Moria.

– The reason we now accept children and families from the Moria camp is that KrF negotiates policies that are possible to implement, said Ropstad in his speech to the national board on Friday.

But it is not certain that the Syrian families Norway will now pick up will come from the now burned camp. Ropstad notes that the Greek authorities had already transferred several thousand people to the mainland. Therefore, the asylum seekers who are picked up may have left Moria several months ago. Norway can also pick up from other camps in Greece, confirms Ropstad.

– The most important thing is to help these refugees, he says.

– So why do you talk all the time about Moria’s camp?

– Because the decision to pick up refugees and the determination of the actual number was decided before the fire. The starting point was that the situation in the Moria camp was tragic before the fire and that the international community needed help, says Ropstad.

It does not hide the fact that KrF would like to get more and faster.

– If Europe achieves better deals together, we are prepared to accept more, he says.
