– There have been many greedy “goods taxis” in the last week. So far, there has been a lot throughout the year compared to before, but now it has really been an explosive increase, says section chief Per Kristian Grandahl at Svinesund customs to Dagsavisen Demokraten.
Customs officials use the term “goods taxis” for these cars, which are used for the illegal private transport of goods across the border.
– They are people who have a van and who carry all kinds of goods with them to people living in Norway, Grandahl tells NRK.
Customs officials have reported 12 to 13 people for operating this type of illegal transport this week alone.
The same type of activity has also been observed at the Ørje and Kongsvinger border crossings.
– Among other things, we have seized 4 to 500 kilos of meat in the last week alone, a lot of pork, of course. We have 15 pictures lying around here and a Rolex watch that turned out to be “fake,” says Grandahl.
You are allowed to bring personal belongings duty free to Norway, but the main rule is that you must transport them yourself.
