The 41-year-old man was found on the floor of his 70-year-old mother’s apartment on Sunday. According to Swedish media, he is suspected of having kept his son trapped in the apartment since he was about 12 years old.
It was a relative who found the man. Expressen has spoken with this relative, who says he found it in a corner of the apartment.
– It was urine, dirt and dust. It smelled rotten, he tells Expressen.
According to information from Expressen and Aftonbladet on Monday, the man is said to be missing teeth and had several injuries.
On Sunday night he underwent surgery at the Karolinska Hospital.
The man’s mother has been arrested, suspected of deprivation of liberty and serious bodily injury. Police now suspect that the woman held him captive for 28 years, as he was in the seventh grade.

I went to the apartment
The relative who found the 41-year-old woman on Sunday told Expressen that more than 20 years had passed since she last set foot in this home.
She says that many years ago she tried to sound the alarm about the woman’s control over her son, but claims other relatives should have sprayed him.
– Then I was young and finally I gave up, he says.
But on Sunday he was told that the man’s mother was in the hospital and then he decided to go to the apartment.
– I understood that he was there and that he had to be scared because his mother, who was his only safety, was gone, he says.
He kept the woman as a sex slave for 31 years
Dark corner
The apartment door was open, the woman tells Expressen. He opened it and screamed, but got no response. From the darkness inside, the stench hit her.
– Smelled rotten, she says.
He discovered the man in the kitchen. There he was sitting in a dark corner on the floor, according to the relative.
– I saw it in the light of one of the streetlights outside. At first I only discovered her legs. When he saw me, he got up and whispered my name over and over.
– How could he recognize you after all those years?
-I don’t know, but he must have done it somehow, says the familiar.

He goes on to say that he discovered the man was missing a lot of teeth and says he spoke quickly and a bit incoherently. He didn’t seem afraid of him, he says.
Then he noticed the man’s legs.
– I can hardly describe them. It looked horrible. Everything ached down to his knees.
She alerted an ambulance and health workers who arrived at the apartment treated the man’s legs on the spot. They then took him out on a stretcher and took him to the hospital.
According to information from Expressen, the man is said to have undergone emergency surgery there yesterday.
Hospital doctors also alerted the police.
– I am shocked, desperate, but at the same time relieved, says the relative who found it.
