– I think it is fun to have these exciting hours together, says Jan Gregersen (71) at the election vigil of Republicans Abroad Norway. On Wednesday night, Trump’s friends met at a restaurant in the capital.
– It’s really exciting. We don’t know how it goes, and that was the case also last time, says Jan Gregersen.
At TGI Friday’s restaurant on the second floor of Oslo Central Station, a double-digit number of Republican Party supporters has gathered. Between two television screens and “Trump 2020” flags, there is talk of the election.
“Especially the president’s peace accords in the Middle East, I have a feeling for,” says pensioner Gregersen.
I have an advantage
Trump supporters got off to a good start when they won Florida on Wednesday night. Throughout the day, the mood gradually changed, but the “blue wave” that Democrats had hoped for did not materialize.
On Wednesday night Norwegian time, Fox News decided that they will not announce a winner this day.
The initiator of the electoral vigil is Austin Rasmussen (32), from Alaska blood red. Rasmussen is in the leadership of Republicans Abroad Norway, which, among other things, helps Americans living in Norway to vote in their home country.
– I am quite convinced that Trump has a good chance. I’ve had it for two or three weeks, he says.
– Wouldn’t the mood have been even better with yesterday’s election vigil, when Trump won Florida?
Florida was definitely an indication of how this can go, says Rasmussen, adding:
– The only very negative thing so far has been Arizona, but now there is uncertainty again. Even without Arizona, it can be a victory, says Rasmussen, who has lived in the state.
The AP news agency has already announced Joe Biden as the winner in Arizona, when at the time of writing this article, 14 percent of the votes remain to be counted, according to The New York Times.
Doesn’t support everything Trump does
– Although I am a Republican, I do not support Trump in everything he does. This is not constructive behavior, says Austin Rasmussen.
The president is accused of lacking a democratic mindset after his speech to Americans on Wednesday night. In the speech he declared himself the winner, although hundreds of thousands of votes have not yet been counted.
He has also written at least five Twitter messages since Election Day that violate the website’s guidelines on misleading information. The common denominator in the president’s announcements is allegations of electoral fraud.
– I think that’s what was expected of Trump, says Rasmussen.
– You are probably frustrated with the electoral system, as practiced in Pennsylvania.
There, the Supreme Court has ruled that they can receive and count the ballots delivered by mail for several days after the elections.
– I liked what Trump’s electoral campaign apparatus said about it: “It’s Election Day, not Election Week,” says the 32-year-old.
On Wednesday night Norwegian time, CNN writes that Trump’s election campaign apparatus filed a lawsuit to stop the count in Pennsylvania.
the elephant in the room
CNN reports Wednesday night that Joe Biden is securing the votes of all 16 Michigan voters.
As midnight Norwegian time approaches, Biden and the Democratic Party are seen as at the forefront of the battle for the presidency. They were great pre-favorites.
Too big, says the Alaska Republican:
– First of all, I think this day is embarrassing for the media, opinion polls and so-called experts. Both here and at home in America, Republicans in general have been more positive than you, Rasmussen says.
– What is it like to be a Republican here in Norway?
– Start a lot of conversations.
