It is the municipality of Sarpsborg that on Saturday night claims that the number of new cases of infection is the highest in the city. Siri Brelin, the municipal chief physician, says the number may increase.
– We have not yet finished tracking the infection, but so far everything indicates that the vast majority of new cases can be seen in relation to the large outbreak that is occurring. The good thing about this is that the infection does not appear to have spread outside of the environment. Therefore, we believe that we still have some control over the outbreak, says Brelin.
At 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, no more cases of contagion had been detected than the 15, the municipal doctor informed NTB.
1,100 quarantined
500 people in Sarpsborg and nearly 600 in Fredrikstad have been quarantined after the crown outbreak related to a Muslim celebration last week, updated figures from both municipalities show on Saturday.
In Sarpsborg, 437 school students, 48 teachers, 22 kindergarten children, six employees in a nursing home and two kindergarten employees are in quarantine, according to the municipality’s summary.
The municipality of Fredrikstad claims that almost 600 kindergarten children, pupils and teachers from primary and lower secondary schools are in quarantine. In a week, the municipality has registered 114 new cases of contagion. 17 of them are primary and secondary school or kindergarten students. Two kindergartens, six schools and two secondary schools are affected.
Almost 200 infected
Sofie Lund Danielsen, municipal chief physician in Fredrikstad, emphasizes that it is now crucial that people comply with the quarantine rules.
– We understand that it can be difficult to stay indoors when the weather is nice and you feel in good shape. But there are reasons to emphasize that quarantine regulations are strict. Everyone needs to comply with quarantine rules to prevent an even bigger outbreak, she says Saturday.
On Friday, 40 new corona cases were reported in Fredrikstad and nine in Sarpsborg. All the cases in Fredrikstad and eight of the nine in Sarpsborg are linked to the same celebration that took place in Skjeberg in the Al-Ghadir religious community. In total, nearly 200 people have been infected with the outbreak.
– Celebration canceled
Director Sadiq Baker Alezairjawi of the Al-Ghadir Islamic Center religious community released a statement Thursday through Sarpsborg municipality regarding the outbreak related to the celebration of the Ashura festival.
The celebration usually lasts 13 days. It was interrupted a few days before the plan when the first case of contagion was reported last Sunday.
According to the director, there were typically 60-70 men and 50-60 women participating every day. Sunday was the big party with around 170 present. Men and women have different events in separate buildings.
– Antibac has been available and we have been very concerned about staying at a distance, not crowding or having close contact. We have also been clear that the sick should stay at home. None of the participants had symptoms of coronary heart disease, he says.
