The municipality of Bergen is stepping up measures to reduce coronary heart disease in the city. Private gatherings of more than ten people are prohibited.
– We are now in a situation where we have to limit the spread of the infection. We have to end this outbreak. And we believe that if we can do it now in 10 days, we can avoid stronger measures later, says Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor).
The backdrop is a strong flourishing of the infection in the city’s student community in the past two weeks.
The municipality has launched crisis management as a result of the situation. The measures being introduced now will initially apply until September 18.
New measures
Local infection control measures are as follows:
* Private collections are reduced from the current maximum number of twenty to ten. This means that having more than ten people in private meetings is prohibited.
* Public events can have a maximum of 50 participants, compared to 200 today.
* Restaurants and bars must maintain a visitor list.
* Restrictions on visits to nursing homes and health institutions are reintroduced.
* Students are given a postponed internship in municipal services.
In addition to these measures, which are regulated in accordance with the Infection Control Act, a recommendation is introduced for bandages in public transport when there is congestion.
The municipality has also decided that all municipality employees who may have a home office must have one.
New increase this weekend
According to Valhammer, the municipality experienced a decline in infection rates on Friday.
– But the evolution of the weekend and the beginning of this week has shown that we are now in a situation in which it is necessary to implement increasingly powerful measures to combat the contagion situation in our city, he explains.
Bergen is now in a situation where everyone must contribute to fighting the infection, says health adviser Beate Husa (KrF).
– We see that we now have the highest number of new infections in the city since the pandemic began, he warns.
– Even in March we did not see such high infection rates. The increased spread also increases the risk that more people will develop serious diseases and die.
Worried about nursing homes
According to Husa, the city council is particularly concerned about the outbreak of infection in nursing homes.
Therefore, visit restrictions have been reintroduced to municipal health institutions. The same applies to the plan of visits of one hour a week.
For nursing home residents who are dying, there will be separate visitation rules.
– We know that many would like to visit more often, but we have to prioritize life and health first, explains the health council.
