Eight new cases of the mutated virus were confirmed in Bergen on Saturday. The Norwegian Health Directorate now recommends a particularly high level of measures for Bergen and 12 surrounding municipalities.

On Saturday, eight new cases of variants of the mutated virus were detected in Bergen. Six of the cases are of the British variant, while two are of the South African variant. In total, the municipality of Bergen has 16 of the British virus variant and seven cases of the South African.

The Bergen Municipality, together with neighboring municipalities, has asked the government to introduce strict regional measures.

In the current situation, the degree of severity and urgency, as well as the need for rapid general coordination, is considered a central decision on the location of certain municipalities according to the level of measures in chapters 5A and 5A of the covid- regulation. 19. 5B, states the Norwegian Health Directorate on Sunday morning.

– It is considered necessary to ensure time to establish a more complete picture of the situation. Until this is established, the risk image is considered so severe that extensive measures are considered proportionate, write more.

The Norwegian Health Directorate recommends that the measures be applied initially for one week, that is, until Sunday 14.2.21.

There will be less social contact

On Sunday a press conference on the status of the crown was announced in Bergen.

Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor Party) calls on the people of Bergen to be prepared for tougher measures. Among other things, they want to limit the possibility of social interaction.

– It is when we meet that we mainly get infected and that is what the measures will be aimed at, he says.

Valhammer describes the situation as confusing and worries that they cannot track where more cases of mutated virus infection are coming from in Bergen.

Before Christmas, Bergen was hit by a high infection and introduced strict measures to eliminate the virus.

– The people of Bergen and Striler have shown several times that they line up and follow the rules. We have shown that we can quickly return to a normal situation. I am optimistic that we will clear this up, although I understand that people are tired now.

High: – A serious situation

– Bergen is in dire straits with outbreaks of both the English and South African variant of the virus, Health Minister Bent Høie (H) said in an email to NTB on Saturday night.

Infection control doctor Frank van Betten in Bergen said Saturday morning that several of the cases with mutated viruses are not linked to each other and that they cannot trace where the infection is coming from.

– Bergen and the surrounding municipalities today asked the government to make national decisions for the region. We are working on that, and there will be a clarification of what measures will be implemented tomorrow morning, Høie says Saturday night.
