STRONG IMAGE WARNING: See Top Collision!
Four minutes into the match between Arsenal and Wolverhampton, there was a serious clash.
Raúl Jiménez and David Luiz collided when Arsenal took a corner kick. Jiménez soared into the air to finish off Willian’s corner kick, and behind him came David Luiz at full speed. Both players were left on the ground after the collision.
– It is rare that you have seen such force in a collision. We’re used to people hitting their heads, but this was hugely powerful, says TV 2 soccer expert Erik Thorstvedt during the break.
The Arsenal player bled from his head, but was allowed to continue the match after being bandaged around the head.
During the break, the Brazilian was still retired.
– He passed all the tests after the incident, so he was able to continue the match. During halftime he said he had a hard time getting into head duels due to the bandage and the cut on his forehead so we took him out, says Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Jiménez, who was apparently unconscious on the ground, was the one who suffered the most as more and more of the health personnel gathered around him.
– I immediately realized that it was serious. Fortunately, you are now with the right people. We hope and pray that everything goes well for him, Wolves captain Conor Coady says after the game.
Coady was close when he crashed and reacted quickly when he saw his teammate.
– I got it right away. It is not something we want to see. I pray and hope that everything goes well. I hope both Raúl and David Luiz do well, says Coady.
Finally, they placed the Mexican on a stretcher and pulled him out of the sand. Photographs of the forward showed that he received oxygen and was wearing a neck brace. At 9:42 p.m., Sky Sports reported that the forward was conscious and responding to the treatment he received at the hospital.
After the game, the Wolves coach confirmed it.
Wolverhampton states that they will be back with more information as soon as they have it.
Intentional first half
Mikel Arteta has struggled to get Arsenal’s machinery going this season. After nine league games, they remained with four wins, one draw and four losses. Against Wolverhampton, the statistics became even more pessimistic.
In the 27th minute, the visitors leveled the score after Leander Dendoncker slipped through the middle and shot on goal for 1 – 1. The second leg ended in Pedro Neto’s legs, who put the ball into the goal.
Only three minutes later Arsenal responded. Gabriel came up on a corner kick and stabbed in the tie.
The Wolves took only ten minutes to respond. Once again it was Pedro Neto who tried. This time, Bernd Leno came back, and then Daniel Podence was like lightning to catch the ball. After throwing it on an Arsenal defender, he nailed it in the goal.
After the situation in which Raúl Jiménez had to leave the field, ten minutes were added in the first half.
The crisis continues at Arsenal
In the second half, very little happened. Neither team managed to create big chances. Thus, Arsenal is ranked 14 after ten league games. In total, they have taken 13 points out of 30 possible. Mikel Arteta’s team has also scored just ten goals in ten games.
Thus, Arsenal have their worst league start since the 1981/1982 season.
For the Wolves, they move up to sixth place, just four points behind league leaders Tottenham.
