Raises almost 10 billion to build a new road on E6 Sørfold in Nordland – NRK

– Is it allowed to animate without restrictions?

Sørfold Mayor Gisle Erik Hansen (Sp) is ecstatic when he hears what is about to happen.

For many years, the E6 in Sørfold has been an annoying thorn in the side for everyone heading north and south of the country. If it is closed, there is no way out and Norway will split in two.

Now KrF deputy leader Ingelin Noresjø comes with good news: in the National Transport Plan (NTP), the government has set aside up to NOK 9.6 billion to build a completely new route.

It’s about time, says Noresjø.

– As far as I know, this is perhaps the biggest transport project underway that Northern Norway has ever seen. It will be built here for 5-8 years. It will mean a lot for the municipality, the region, but also for Norway.

– A whole new standard

The plan to build a new E6 in Sørfold has long been on the government’s table. As early as 2015, NRK wrote that the Norwegian Public Roads Administration had the plan ready, but that the money was lacking.

Noresjø is happy that his government is now allocating the funds, provided the Storting approves.

– We are well aware that many have been impatient to start this way. But now it is happening. We are the government that complies with this.

She says the new route will not only make the road much safer, but travel time will be greatly reduced.

– You are always afraid that something will happen, because it is narrow, narrow and dark. But now it will be a completely new standard, where the travel time will be shortened by 25 minutes.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration will be the customer and is therefore responsible for staying within the framework. The top KrF thinks it will go well.

– I think it will work out. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration will collaborate with the business community to optimize and find good solutions with commercial actors and entrepreneurs. The goal is for it to be cheaper than $ 9.6 billion.

The first Conservative Party candidate in Nordland, Bård Ludvig Thorheim, votes and believes this is a clear sign from the government.

– It is very important, because it is a real investment in Nordland from the government. All of Nordland benefits from it, but especially the business community we have in Steigen, Hamarøy and Sørfold. And it was about time.

One of the worst in E6

One who also sees great value in this is the road director and former regional road director for Northern Norway, Torbjørn Naimak.

– It was in line with the proposals we prepared a few years ago. Now I have nothing to do with it, but an old heart on the road likes that the section is resolved once and for all.

– Is this the worst stretch of road on the E6?

– It’s hard to say. We have quite a few bad sections, especially in the north. You have bad stages in Ofoten, Hamarøy and Nord-Troms, so sadly there are several stages that compete to be the worst. But this section is of great importance, because in practice there is no alternative.

Since the government does not have a majority in the Storting, it will depend on the other parties being positive up to this point in the NTP.
