Racism, Instagram | A new video shows what really happened on the train

[ad_1]

– He was terribly scared, says a witness to Nettavisen.

Recently, a train conductor was posted as a racist on social media based on a three-second video posted on the “racisme_i_Norge” Instagram account. The online newspaper interviewed witnesses, examined videos of the incident and internal reports from Vy.

The story told something completely different: Several witnesses tell Nettavisen that it was the youth gang that first attacked the train conductor. The driver also did not strangle the dark-skinned girl in the short video.

The girl who posted the video on her own TikTok channel, and who claimed she was strangled, believes it was the driver who attacked them.

New Videos

Nettavisen has now reviewed new video recordings of a witness to the incident. Through a total of three minutes of video, we get a deeper insight into what actually happened on the train. The video recording shows part of the incident, but it does not begin until 10 minutes after the youth gang has boarded the train.

According to witnesses Nettavisen has spoken to, the first ten minutes were about the driver trying to get paid for a ticket. The gang, which consisted of six girls and two boys, did not have a ticket. Several of them locked themselves in the bathroom during the period.

The video is divided into three clips that are filmed separately. You can see it on the top of the case. A transcript of the dialogue in the video is further down in the case.

It was very uncomfortable. He was already very scared on the platform. When you are alone and there are a lot of people arguing, howling and screaming, then you don’t feel safe, says a witness.

The online newspaper knows the identity of the witness, but wants to remain anonymous.

According to the person in question, a gang of two girls and a boy first appeared on the platform before the train left Porsgrunn on 23.09 Friday night. The first gang to arrive was “obviously drunk,” a source tells Nettavisen. They went with an open bottle of vodka and drank from it. They also asked the witness if he had tobacco or tobacco.

– They asked about everything. Where did the train go, how long did it take to get there. It was obvious to me that they were drunk.

Then two more gangs arrived and many stood on the platform. It was then that a strong argument broke out.

– They yelled at each other. I was a little scared, so I pulled back a bit. Another who had a ticket also withdrew a bit.

Finally, there are six girls and two boys who join the train, the rest leave the station when the train arrives. When the train arrives, the witness moves to the back car to get away from the gang a bit.

Then the train stopped for five or six minutes, then a girl ran into the carriage in which the witness was sitting. He locked himself in the bathroom. This is when the source takes the camera.

The source describes the director’s demeanor as professional and calm.

– He was just trying to do his job. It also seemed like there was a lot of acting amongst that gang on the train. She a girl begins to cry and lies down on the ground because he grabs her arm. It was pretty clear that they wanted to film the director in a way that made him look very bad, says the witness.

A completely different version

The 16-year-old who posted the video strongly disagrees with the presentation of the case.

– We were going home after being with a friend. It was the last train going to Drammen and we were in Porsgrunn. I ran out of power on my cell phone. I just wanted to charge the phone and call my mom and ask her to tip me on a ticket, she tells Nettavisen.

She confirms that no one in the group had a valid ticket, but that they should call or text the parents to tip them for the tickets.

Then the discussion began between the director and the youth gang. He refused to get off the train until he was unable to charge his mobile phone and speak to his mother. According to her, they went to the driver, and then he turned violent and strangled his sister for at least five seconds. Then the sister gives the girl the phone to film, so that she can later show it to the police.

The girl herself claims that when the police arrived, they did not believe her explanation.

– Do you think this would not have happened if you were white?

– Yes, that is correct. Whether you are racist or not, you must not strangle, shove, or hit.

– Was it the case that someone from the gang hit or pushed the driver?

– Yes, it can happen, but it only happened after he strangled my sister. Then we get very angry.

She denies that there was any discussion on the train platform before departure.

The case is now being investigated by the police, and Vy has obtained footage from a security camera aboard the train.

Unanswered

The online newspaper has been trying for several days to get answers to questions from the Instagram account that shared the video and claimed that the driver had strangled the dark-skinned girl. They have not responded to our inquiries.

The online newspaper wanted answers to the following questions:

What is the purpose of presenting a case in this way without considering the context or explaining the course of events?

Is the video deliberately cut so as not to include the rest of the course of events? If not, why was the full video not shared?

When people with knowledge of the case tried to write in the comment field about the case, to provide context, their comment was removed and the user was blocked on their own. Why?

When the context is clearer, do you think this is an example of racism in Norway?

In the past, your posts led to a person losing their job. Do you feel the responsibility to present a correct image of a case?

What routines do you have to ensure that what you post, which is widely disseminated, is correct?

Since then, the account has deleted all posts on Instagram and closed it, so it is not open to people who do not follow the account. In response to the case, the site has posted the following Instagram story:

«Regarding the Vy case. First, it is important to remember that these are 16 year old girls. When they get in touch with racism in Norway, and they send a clip where they are strangled, it is important that we take them seriously. We have great confidence in the young people who contact us, and this was no different.

They only sent us the clip we posted. We removed 2 seconds where you used some very ugly comments, causing one to lose focus.

We never met with the director or the Vy group. The driver, of course, was gossiping and we just asked questions about the whole situation, and contacted Vy via Instagram. That contact was nice, we sent them the train time and other information so they could investigate the matter further.

That it now comes to light that there has been a conflict beforehand is completely new to us and just as important. The case has several sides, and that is part of the objective of the group Vy that investigates it.

Again. We have absolutely never called the director or the Vy group racists. We only asked questions about the situation they sent us. We have anonymized the driver and never comment on him or his person, neither by comments nor on the incident. Nor have we come to the conclusion that it was racism. We only asked questions about the incident.

We recommend that you take the utmost consideration when it comes to young girls and the principal. These are very young girls who should be tested. The director is in charge of the Vy group. We hope that both the drivers and the girls are well, that they have peace and quiet around them, so that they can handle this situation in a good way.

Unscrupulous comments are unnecessary. We report all threats. Mvh racism in Norway ».
