Ahmad, a well-known television personality in Indonesia, was filmed when he was stabbed on Wednesday. For viewers, he said there is nothing to fear.
According to health authorities, the decision to include influencers in the first round of vaccinations together with health workers was an important part of the government’s communication strategy.
Indonesia has been hit hard by the corona pandemic. 869,000 have been infected and 25,000 corona-related deaths have been recorded.

Great skepticism about vaccines
However, there has been a lot of skepticism about the vaccine, whether it is safe and effective. Knowing that Indonesians are big consumers of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, health authorities have chosen to give the vaccine to several well-known influencers.
The hope is that many, and especially young people, will be less skeptical of the vaccine when they see celebrities taking it.
A survey last week showed that 37 percent were willing to take the vaccine, 40 percent considered it, while 17 percent refused to take it.
Indonesian doctors have wondered whether it was prudent for Indonesian authorities to use the vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotechs. A study from Brazil has shown that the Chinese vaccine only provides just over 50 percent protection against COVID-19.

It wasn’t quite according to plan
The public relations stunt with Raffi Ahmad didn’t exactly go according to plan. Just hours after receiving the vaccine, which does not provide immediate immunity, photographs of Ahmad were taken at a party. The photos show him without a face mask in close contact with friends.
