The bike path has been the subject of a bitter dispute after the district clearly said no, but the city council has decided to remove the parking spaces to open up the new red bike lanes. It has provoked strong reactions among residents of the area.

– We have quite a few tasks that must be taken care of by the public sector. When you experience this as something so stupid, I think politicians should take some time and think about it a bit, says Stang.
A last attempt has recently been made to stop the bike lane in the City Council with an alliance of the Conservatives, the Liberal Party, the FNB and the Center Party. However, the proposal was rejected and the city council is ready to start laying the bike path in a few weeks.
The price is estimated to be approximately NOK 20 million.

Anxious cyclist

– I think those machines can handle both me and the links without having to call the police, says Stang and laughs.
– But isn’t it necessary to build a complete bicycle network in Oslo?

Stang is an avid cyclist and travels all over the city. But on the Gyldenløves gate, he thinks it is completely unnecessary with a bike path. There are already wide sidewalks on the street and a riding trail in the middle where people can ride their bikes.
– We see that it works perfectly well. Driving big bulldozers and trucks to fix something is not a problem, I think a lot of people get upset, he says.
