The government announces new measures early next week. At the same time, Prime Minister Erna Solberg announces a speech to the nation.
The government has announced new national measures next week, that is, a year after the pandemic actually started to devastate Norway.
The R number is currently 1.3, which shows that the infection is spreading rapidly. The goal is to get the R number below 1.
Health Minister Bent Høie (H) has asked the Norwegian Health Directorate and the NIPH to analyze whether national measures are sufficient or if we need further measures to get the R number below 1.
Therefore, the National Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Health Directorate must submit a report with their recommendations.
VG contacted FHI and the Norwegian Health Directorate on Friday. They cannot answer what areas are considering introducing measures, or what kinds of measures are being discussed.

– Both the ministry, the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health are monitoring the situation very closely and are now working on possible measures that can be implemented early next week, says Secretary of State Saliba Andreas Korkunc (H) to VG.
Korkunc says that if the government is advised to introduce stricter measures, this could happen very quickly.
VG has contacted the Ministry of Health and Sanitary Services, who cannot confirm whether they have received the report yet.

Many already have strict measures
Korkunc notes that strict measures have already been introduced in several places in Norway.
– Last night, the government introduced very strict regional measures in six municipalities of Vestfold and Telemark, at the request of the municipalities themselves. Therefore, a large part of Norway’s population already lives under stricter measures than national measures.
VG has spoken with several mayors about what kind of measures they want.
Mayors experiencing high infection pressure at the local level have already introduced strict measures and do not see what the government can propose that could be more intrusive.
Others ask for time to prepare before the measures are implemented, so that the implementation is the best possible.
Prime Minister announces speech
On Sunday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) will give a speech to the Norwegian people. The background is that it has been almost a year since the closing on March 12.
The speech will take place on Sunday at 6:00 p.m., reports the Prime Minister’s office in a press release.
