It raises the price by just SEK 70 per month, far less than the dealers.

There were shockwaves among Norwegian viewers interested in football when it emerged last week that the price of TV 2’s Premier League channels will increase by as much as NOK 200.

Both Canal Digital, Altibox and RiksTV announced that they are drastically increasing the prices of Premier League subscriptions, while other players announce that they are in the expert group.

More expensive

Canal Digital increased prices from NOK 499 per month to NOK 699, while Altibox increased NOK 150. Other players, such as Telia, have yet to make up their minds, a week after Canal Digital announced their increase.

The TV distributors justified this on the grounds that TV 2 has increased its recommended price for them, as a result of the increase in rights costs.

Therefore, there was enthusiasm for how much TV 2 would raise prices. It turned out to be much less, only 70 crowns.

It appears in an email sent to TV 2 Sumo customers on Monday. The new price will be NOK 519 for the Premier League and Sport package and NOK 549 for the Total package, which includes all other channels as well.

Cheaper

Therefore, it becomes a much cheaper alternative for Norwegians interested in football than buying through dealers.

– No wonder the price is lower with TV 2 Sumo than with a dealer. We sell the Premier League directly on TV 2 Sumo, while the distributors will make their profit from the sale of the products. In addition, they have expenses for their additional sales link, says TV 2 communications director Sarah Willand to Kampanje, who mentioned the case first.

– Distributors decide their price on customers and can choose how high margin they want to charge based on the recommended price that TV 2 has established. Here we also see that dealers set different prices for customers, says Willand.

It has also been speculated whether TV 2 has increased prices more in front of distributors so that more people choose TV 2 Sumo. The channel loses the rights to Premier Leagye within two years and may have a vested interest in having direct control over these customers.
