  • Leeds 1-1 Manchester City

Leeds were not far from stealing all the points at home to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday. The promotion team impressed in the match that ended 1-1.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were not intimidated by star players like Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. The promotion team showed what it is capable of getting ahead in the field and managed to get a point from the arrangement.

Sterling was, as usual, dangerous from the start. After the fourth game, he fell into the Leeds defense and made it 1-0.

Throughout the second half, Leeds woke up and did what many teams have failed to do. The promotion team had the ball more than Manchester City safe.

The home team was rewarded for their effort just before the hour after the City goalkeeper Ederson got in with a punt. He took advantage of Rodrigo and scored the tie.

Both teams pressed for victory, but there were no more goals in Leeds. City, which lost to Leicester in the previous round, are thus in 10th place in the league, while Leeds is in fifth place.

– It was a good game when both teams want to attack. A good game with a fair result, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said in an interview shown on TV 2 after the game.

Strong sterling dribble

Kevin de Bruyne attempted a free kick with a free kick from long range after four minutes. When everyone thought the Belgian was going to score, he fired into the nearest corner and hit the metal.

After playing the fourth, Sterling found himself free and put Riyad Mahrez at 45 degrees. After Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier was duped, only a wall of Leeds players stood between Mahrez and City 1-0. The 29-year-old did not hit the net, but shot straight into the white wall.

A minute later, Sterling was doing more dribbling and magic down the left flank. The 25-year-old found his way into the box and huddled in the goal-ahead passing Meslier.

Aymeric Laporte was close to 2-0 with his forehead five minutes later, but the ball disappeared outside the posts.

Possibilities over opportunities

Just before the break, Leeds came very close to equalizing. Benjamin Mendy’s weak defense ended up catching the ball from Luke Ayling, who nicely knocked off a tackling City player before Ederson could stop the shot.

The home team got screwed in the second half and punished a Manchester City team that seemed to relax a bit.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men pressed with wave of attack after wave of attack and were rewarded for the effort just before the hour played by Rodrigo Moreno. Ederson missed a clearance from a corner kick and hit the ball directly into the 29-year-old’s legs, who easily rolled into the tie.

– They attack with their quality players incredibly fast. It is not easy to play against them. They have shown that in their matches so far and in the Championship last season, Guardiola showed off.

If the Leeds players did not believe they could beat Guardiola’s team, at least they gained faith after the draw. The hosts attacked Ederson over and over again and came close to taking the lead with another goal from Rodrigo. The Brazilian jingled his head off compatriot Ederson, who just had to push the ball to the crossbar and get out.

Soon after, Sterling woke up and should have set the leadership goal for City. The wing came alone against Meslier, but was too slow and indecisive in the final moment.

Chances abound during the second half at both ends of the field, but goals are lost.

The disappointing season opener lingers for Manchester City, while Leeds show they intend to remain in the top flight of English football.
