Manchester United took a vital victory over bottom side West Bromwich on Saturday night.

MANCHESTER UNITED – WEST BROMWICH 1-0:

Bruno Fernandes made two attempts from the penalty spot against West Bromwich, and on the second attempt the Portuguese scored. It secured a vital victory for Manchester United and Solskjær.

West Bromwich, who haven’t won a single game in the Premier League this season, threatened United throughout the match. But in the end, it was United who was able to cheer for the three points.

Martial Bom

Manchester United have not had a good start to the season and were well below the table before Saturday’s game. Solskjær and United had a lot to prove in the game against bottom West Bromwich, and they went straight for the throats of the guests.

After two minutes, Mata came in and Martial got the ball stunned into the far corner, but Sam Johnstone saved.

After a quarter of an hour, Martial should have an even bigger chance. Manchester United played very well and Fernandes found Martial free in front of goal. The Frenchman finished in usable fashion from close range, but Johnstone read the shot before the ball left Martial’s feet and he held onto a beautiful save.

United had several chances in the first half but failed to score with a very good Sam Johnstone on West Bromwich’s goal.

Punishment drama

The second half started dramatically. Gallagher went to the ground in United’s penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. But then the VAR came to the field. The referee came out to look at the monitor and the penalty was annulled.

Rashford attempted a shot right after, but Johnstone was on the score sheet.

It was also De Gea when Townsend got a big break right after. The back was alone on the back post and ended low towards the far corner. But De Gea is known to be good with his legs, and the Spaniard followed with a great parade of legs.

And just minutes later, United were penalized when Furlong stopped a ball with his arm. Fernandes got up and took the penalty, but Johnstone saved.

The goalkeeper cheered, but he had started too early and the penalty had therefore to be re-taken. On the second attempt, Fernandes was safe and United went 1-0.

United had several important occasions in the second half, as did West Bromwich. Callum Robinson scored a 30-meter free kick in the 65th minute of play.

However, there were no more goals, leading United to claim their first home win of the season in the Premier League.
