The first energy trade through Nordlink started on Tuesday. Trading and connecting to cable result in a jump in energy price on Wednesday, E24 writes.
A summary of the NordPool energy exchange states that the price of electricity in southern Norway will be between 95 øre and 106 øre per kilowatt hour on Wednesday between 15:00 and 18:00.
Quadruple
This is a four-fold increase from Tuesday’s prices, as the price of electricity averaged 25 øre per kilowatt hour in the same time frame.
According to NordPool, the link with Germany will also affect our neighboring countries, increasing prices in the same period of time.
– The reason for this is that the Nordic energy market is connected with the Nordic and European energy market, says Stina Johansen at NordPool.
He adds that the price jump is not a cause for concern, as it is only a three-hour price increase.
Up and down
Chief Analyst Tor Reier Lilleholt at Wattsight believes more days like this can be expected in the future.
– Prices don’t go up that much every day, but producers find more capacity when this happens and can come back with lower prices the next day, he says.
The energy exchange has a capacity of up to 1,400 MW. The trial operation will last until March next year, Statnett says.
