The protests escalated Wednesday after police officer Brett Hanikson dropped the murder charge of Breonna Taylor, who is black.

Hanikson was charged with dangerous conduct, but not with the murder of Breonna Taylor.

The decision was made by a grand jury in the state of Kentucky.

Looking for drugs

Taylor, 26, was murdered on March 13, when the civil police conducted a house search for drugs. During the incident, Taylor’s girlfriend shot the police, injuring one of them. He later explained that he acted in self-defense and thought it was the criminals who broke in.

Since then, there have been many demonstrations against police violence and racism in Kentucky.

The FBI assists

The FBI has deployed special forces after a police officer was shot Wednesday to assist in the investigation of the incident.

Governor Andy Beshear also previously reported that National Guard soldiers are deployed to protect “critical infrastructure” in the city.
