The Congress building in Washington DC in the US is closed after a “security incident,” according to NBC News. Employees must have been informed that no one could enter or exit.
Live photos from the site show a blue car crashing into safety barriers in the area.
The Congressional Police Unit confirms the incident on Twitter and writes that the car struck two police officers outside. The collision is said to have occurred 300 feet from the entrance to the Senate in Congress, according to the AP news agency.
The two police officers are injured and one of them is said to be seriously injured. Both have been taken to hospital, writes congressional police.
According to NBC News, the alleged perpetrator died after being shot outside of Capitol Hill.
There are several police patrols at the site. A helicopter is said to have landed near the building, according to an NBC reporter.
Security on Capitol Hill was strengthened after several Trump supporters stormed the building on January 6. Among other things, the outer road has been blocked for a long time.
