This was confirmed by the police at a press conference on Tuesday night.

The shooting took place at the King Soopers supermarket in Colorado at 11 p.m. Monday.

– Today we had a tragic incident here, said Police Chief Kerry Yamaguchi in the local police at the press conference.

He first confirmed that “several have lost their lives,” including a police officer, but could not say anything about the exact number. Ten people are later confirmed to have died after the shooting.

According to ABC News, police officers were shot while running into the market parking lot.

Arrested person

Initially, the police asked people to stay away from the area, and large forces were moved to the scene.

A man with blood running down his leg, with a torso and handcuffs, was taken out of the building by two policemen at 11:30 p.m. and then took him away.

Yamaguchi confirms that the police arrested one person after the shooting. The person in question is in custody and is being treated for injuries.

– I can say that there is no longer an ongoing threat in King Soopers, he said, adding that “the rapid response of the police may have saved lives.”

Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty described the shooting as “a tragedy and a nightmare.”

“We must unite to support the victims and their families, and ensure that justice is maintained,” he told a news conference.

Unknown reason

Footage from the scene Monday night showed at least three wounded people lying on the ground both inside and outside the supermarket, while multiple shots could be heard.

Customers were escorted out of the store with blankets around them and then treated by emergency services on site.

The cause of the shooting is not yet known. It is also unknown whether the police knew the person detained from before, or what the motive of the person may have been.
