Police Investigate Hurtigruten Data Attack – E24

Hurtigruten announced earlier this week that it has been the subject of a comprehensive data attack, and now the company writes in an update that the data attack is under police investigation.

The company reports that it has received a more general description of the extent of the damages.

“The likelihood that attackers have gained access to large amounts of guest data is low, but Hurtigruten keeps open the possibility that certain employee information is compromised,” the company writes.

– Today we informed Hurtigruten employees that there is a theoretical possibility that the cyber attack against us led the attackers to gain access to employees’ personal information. We cannot determine with 100 percent certainty if the data has only been accessed and further encrypted, or if the data has also been potentially downloaded from our storage media, says IT Executive Vice President Ole-Marius Moe-Helgesen at Hurtigruten in a statement.

The company writes that preliminary surveys conducted by its own experts, together with external resources with specialized expertise in the field, show that the likelihood of attackers gaining access to larger customer data is very low.

– We ask you to understand that due to the nature of the situation and because the cyber attack is being investigated by the police, we do not have the opportunity to share more details at this time. We are happy to return with more answers when the situation permits, says Moe-Helgesen.

Hurtigruten reservation systems are not yet available due to the data attack. The website is being restored and tested. Due to the data attack, Hurtigruten’s press email is currently down.
