On Sunday night, just before midnight, police reported that a search operation was launched for a 50-year-old couple who went out for a walk in Sirdalsheiene on Saturday. The couple were reported to have disappeared around 9 p.m. Sunday night, when they did not show up for a meeting. The family did not contact the couple.

It is unknown where the journey began and where the couple was headed.

– We know that they are people used to hiking who have previously used the tourist cabins in the area. We assume that one of the tourist huts is the destination of your trip, says the operations manager in the south-west police district, Toralf Skårland, to Aftenbladet.

It is currently unknown when the couple were last observed and what color their clothes were.

Several patrols, including two dog patrols, and volunteers are participating in the search Sunday night.

– We are mainly looking for the couple’s car, a Toyota Land Cruiser. The location of the car will be the starting point for a search. We are very interested in the observations of the car.

The police request that the observations of the car, which has registration number AJ83492, be released to the police on 02800.

Skårland says the search continues Sunday afternoon and evening into Monday, but conditions in Sirdal may make the search difficult.

– We will do our best to find out what happened, but how long we will apply from night to Monday depends on the conditions. It is minus 20 degrees in the area, danger of avalanches and darkness.
