No alcohol or other drugs were detected in Petter Northug’s blood, the Eastern Police District said in a news release.
On Tuesday afternoon, the police received the result of the analysis of the blood sample taken by Petter Northug on August 13. No alcohol or other drugs were detected here.
– The police therefore drop the charge relating to driving under the influence, writes police prosecutor Karoline Ekeberg in the eastern police district in a press release.

The former ski king met the press on August 21 and told them about his problems:
The preliminary charge for possession of drugs and speeding is maintained.
Petter Northug’s lawyer, Håvard Helle, says Northug is informed about the result of the blood test.
– Petter Northug is relieved by the police clarification, although in itself it is in line with what he told the press a week and a half ago, Helle tells Nettavisen.
– It is of great importance for the subsequent prosecution of the criminal case that this serious point in the charge of driving under the influence has been withdrawn from the police, because it turned out that there was no basis for it, continues Northug’s lawyer.

Petter Northug was pulled over at 168 kilometers per hour in a 110 zone of the E6 in Ullensaker on Thursday, August 13. He was later suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and a blood sample was taken. The cocaine was found at his home, the ski star confirmed the next day on Instagram.
On Friday, August 21, Northug met with the press and told them that he had a serious substance abuse problem.

– I have a serious substance abuse problem, consisting of alcohol, drugs and pills, which I have taken in connection with periodic heavy fasting. And there has been a lot of partying lately, Northug admitted at the press conference.
During the press conference, Northug also denied that he was under the influence of drugs when he was stopped by the police.

He explained that he had not felt intoxicated while driving, but told about the party with alcohol and cocaine before the trip. Before being detained by the police, he had been an instructor at a summer ski school for boys between the ages of 11 and 18.
– I was at a party on Tuesday night, until late Wednesday night. There, both alcohol and cocaine were seized. On Wednesday night I drove to Trysil and on Thursday I was at ski school. I did not use alcohol or drugs from the night until Wednesday until I was arrested when I drove a savage on my way home from Trysil. He was driving too fast, over 200 kilometers per hour in zone 80 and I was stupid enough to film it with the phone.
