LAST: Task Force Says Man Who Was Shot By Police Monday Night Is Dead.
The man died at 01:00 last night in the hospital from the injuries he suffered during the armed police operation. This was stated by the Office of Investigation in a press release on Tuesday.
The background to all this was an emergency response to the riots at Ibsens gate just before 10pm on Monday night.
Later, the police were contacted for disorderly conduct in an apartment.
– Shortly thereafter, it was also reported that flames had been observed inside the apartment, says on-call attorney Arne Fjellstad in the West Police District.
The health service was the first to be on site. They contacted firefighters again at 22.23 when flames broke out.
Bergen police will hold a press conference on the case at 1:15 pm.
“Confrontation with the police”
– Based on the situation and the information obtained, weapons were handed over to the crews involved, says Fjellstad.
The special unit for police affairs is notified periodically.
In a press release, they tell more about tonight’s drama:
– Immediately after the arrival of the police, there was a confrontation with a person and the police fired shots with service weapons.
The person who was shot was sent to Haukeland University Hospital with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses tell Bergens Tidende that it appeared to be burning in one apartment and there was a fire in another. In one apartment there was a man at the window.
Firefighters are said to have tried to climb up to him, but according to witnesses, the man fell to the ground when the firefighter approached.
Monitor the site
Police will not release further information on the case until Tuesday night. Police lawyer Arne Fjellstad tells NRK that the police can say more about the incident after kl. eight.
On Tuesday morning, a police patrol is on duty outside the apartment block. All residents at the corresponding entrance must be staying at a hotel, according to an on-site security guard.
