– People pay a lot of money for garbage.

What used to be luxury watches reserved for the rich have now become almost public property. Demand for some models is now so high that dealers cannot deliver enough.

Even if you have 100,000 crowns in your pocket, it is not certain that you can buy the watch of your dreams. On Rolex sports steel models, you should be on a waiting list at best, at worst you don’t even end up there, according to Urmaker Bjerke in Oslo.

Black market

At the same time, a large number of counterfeit copies are produced, which are easily accessible. Help create a black market, where scammers sell real fake watches.

Kevin Collettmüller and Morten Paulsen have a slightly above-average interest in watches. They are both administrators of ‘Klokkeriet’, Norway’s largest enthusiast group on Facebook.

– We constantly see that there are good fraud attempts. Especially in the big open markets like Finn.no, you are very vulnerable because it is easy for someone with bad intentions to publish a product and make it look genuine, says Kevin Collettmüller.

– Many have blinders

They tell of increasingly desperate users who have been misled by rude scammers. Still more speak of attempts at this.

– It is clear that the man in the street, who has not had the interest for a long time, can be deceived rather quickly.

In the pressed market, some used The watches sold for tens of thousands of crowns more than the new price. Managers believe this goes too fast in the turn of eager buyers.

– There are many who go blind. “Here’s the watch I want!”, And then they forget about everything, like checking, and then they go off, says Collettmüller, adding:

– They end up paying the equivalent of what a real watch costs for something that is garbage!

Scammers are constantly trying to gain access to the Facebook group to sell fake watches. Administrators give a lot of advice about people who have dirty flour in their bag. As a result, the list of blocked users has reached almost 1,300, many of them suspected of trying to defraud others for money.

– There are definitely some who make a lot of money from this. And they show up under a name, often on Finn.no, they operate there for a while, they disappear and then they show up under new names, and they keep selling the same watches.

Paulsen and Collettmüller are abandoned by the idea that ordinary people with normal jobs, who have often saved for many years to buy the watch of their dreams, end up being scammed.

– It’s incredibly slippery. People pay a lot of money for something they have been happy to save for. It may be something you’ve actually advocated for and then end up with a worthless item, says Paulsen.
