They sit and lie down together in groups. Only thin plastic walls separate them. They have shiny silver coats to help keep them warm.

Photographs of the reception center in Donna, Texas, were submitted by Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar. He tells the Reuters news agency that the photos were taken last weekend.

Built for 80, it houses over 600

An anonymous employee reports, according to Fox News:

– It is extremely unsafe and dangerous for health. One of the rooms is built to receive 80 people and today we have 694 unaccompanied children here. That’s 867 percent more than capacity.

The employee has written an email to his managers and warned that those who work there cannot be held responsible for health and safety, neither for the immigrants nor for themselves. Employees are stressed and exhausted, he says.

– Immigrants tend to be on top of each other because there is no place for everyone. Children have to lie on their side and sleep to save space.

The employee requests that someone make an effort to improve the situation before a tragedy occurs.

You have denied access to the media

USA Today writes that US authorities have tried to prevent the public from viewing these images. Lawyers and the media have not been allowed into the reception centers. Henry Cuellar says that’s why he’s made sure to post these images now.

About 100,000 people were arrested by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in February when they tried to reach the United States from Mexico. Almost 9,500 of them were unaccompanied minors. The vast majority of arriving adults are sent back, while unaccompanied minors can stay.

After Joe Biden took office, immigrants have flocked from countries south of the United States. The authorities do not have the capacity to receive everyone. And they also have no room to house the many who come responsibly with a view to corona infection.

He gives the job to Kamala Harris

Republicans have said that Joe Biden created a crisis by promising a more humane immigration policy than his predecessor. His promises have made many hope that it will be easier to enter the United States.

President Joe Biden has given Vice President Kamala Harris the responsibility of leading the way in addressing this crisis.

According to AP, the purpose of the appointment is also to show that the president is serious about the situation on the border, after strong criticism from Republicans.

A delegation from the White House and Congress on Wednesday visited the border area and visited a center where minor migrants without family members gather.

On Thursday, a group of Republican senators travels to Texas.

– It’s Joe Biden’s politics that leads to this. Now the capacity at Donna has skyrocketed by 1,500 percent. This is not a merciful policy, says Ted Cruz, according to the Reuters news agency.
