Oslo Taxi had adopted a fare adjustment before the crown crisis. When a VAT reduction for transport services was introduced on April 1 as a crown measure, Oslo Taxi decided to postpone its fare change.

But that change did not register in the Oslo Taxi system, and resulted in the meters calculating the wrong sum.

General manager Gunnar Frogner Dahl says this mistake has cost most customers 14 kronor more on average per trip.

The total sum will amount to 8.6 million, spread over around 616,000 trips, according to the company. The tours were conducted in the period from April 1, 2020 to August 13, 2020.

– An unfortunate lady

– She is an unfortunate lady. Working to reimburse customers has been very important to us. They must be able to trust that they always pay the right price when they drive with us, and we will correct our mistakes, Frogner Dahl tells VG.

In a press release, the company writes that it does not apply to trips paid for with a TT card in Oslo, fixed price trips, like to Gardermoen, or minimum prices.

– You have known about this since August, why didn’t you say anything?

– It has been an extensive technical work to organize the refund. Among other things, it has involved significant facilitation at Nets to make this happen, says Frogner Dahl.

For those who paid in cash, it may have taken too long. Must present receipt or order reference to get money back.

Only some of these Oslo Taxi customers will probably not get a refund. What is not returned to customers will go to the pediatric wards of the Oslo University Hospital, says the CEO.

– We have decided that we will not benefit from the mistake we have made, so the surplus that we have left will be donated to them. This loss is covered by Oslo Taxi AS, so taxi drivers and owners do not receive any additional invoices because of this, and our good customers will get their money back, he says.

March was also critical for the taxi industry. See a review here:
