The bath master in Oslo managed this property for several years. Oslofjordens Friluftsråds has rented a cabin. Now it will be renovated and rented to the town.

– Perhaps we should give it the name Gjenbrukshytta, says Cathrine Restad-Hvalby, Senior Advisor at Oslofjordens Friluftsråd (OF).

Together with operations consultant Ole Østbye and project manager Tanja Kobro, they carry out furniture and other waste from the Heidehaugen cabin. It has not been used for several years.

Oslofjordens Friluftsråd has rented the property, which is located half a kilometer from Ingierstrand bad in the municipality of Oslo.

Heidehaugen will be part of Kystled Oslofjorden, which today consists of 65 accommodation units.

Will reuse furniture

Work is underway on improving the property. A pipe chair, a respatex table, sofas and an old stove are made. Most are from the 1960s and 1970s. Furniture and care items are stored in the basement while craftsmen update and restore.

The plot down to the sea was overgrown. People from the Salvation Army of “Jobben Oslo” have cleared trees and bushes. They also paint the cabins inside.

Much must be fixed before the property can be used. The walls have rot damage. Paint peels off window and door frames. And the property was overgrown.

– Trees hung over the house. The sewers were full of children’s needles. The water spilled out, causing rot damage, Østbye says.

Contractor Ansnes AS will soon move in to rehabilitate the two buildings. The plan is to open the property to people starting in the summer of 2021.

OF has just over 60 cabins near the sea along the Oslo Fjord, from Halden to Larvik. The cabins are independent. You can usually rent a cabin for three days.

The advantages of the bathroom master

Bath master Hjalmar Larsen stayed in the cabin with Ingierstrand when he was not at work. He had the nickname Bade-Larsen and he was manager of the baths of the municipality of Oslo from 1946 to 1971. He was also a master of baths in the baths of Bislet and has had a street named after him in Bislett.

– Being able to get rid of Heidehaugen was a kind of perk that came with the position, says Stine Greni, department manager for the coastal route in Oslofjord at OF.

The property was rented as a company cabin for employees of the Urban Environment Agency until the summer of 2015.

In recent years, it has been empty and carries your mark. In 2018 Oslofjordens Friluftsråd received a temporary lease.

– We have to take care of the place. It’s a small part of the story, Restad-Hvalby notes.

OF has been granted a 40-year lease in exchange for the improvement and maintenance of the property. The buildings need extensive rehabilitation. OF pays 5,000 crowns for rent. They have received support for updates from various foundations.

The municipality of Oslo was going to sell the cabin

The Oslo municipality originally planned to sell the property. Then OF proposed that Heidehaugen be included in the coastal route. Then the planned sale was stopped.

The coast is a focus area for the city council, according to Environment and Transportation Councilor Lan Marie Berg (MDG). So she is happy with the lease with OF.

– Life outdoors in Oslo is much more than Marka. Families in Oslo will experience the sea and the fjord. For us, it is important that those who do not have access to their own cabin have the opportunity to use cabins near the sea, says Berg.

The property is only 13 kilometers from Oslo Central Station. Cycling distance, according to the ODM council.

Several cabins near the sea

DNT will open two booths at Gressholmen in 2021.

This is just a short ferry ride from the Aker Pier. There will also be kayak rentals here.

– Then you can also row from Gressholmen to Heidehaugen, says Berg.

A couple of years ago, DNT’s Fuglemyrhytta was opened. It is located a few kilometers from Frogrsenteren in Nordmarka.

The Urban Environment Agency plans to rent more cabins. A property is currently being advertised at Mosseveien 169b. The goal is to rent it out to a voluntary organization that will use it for outdoor life by the fjord.
