Since September 2019, Olav Vs Gate and Klingenberggata East have gone through an extensive update. On Thursday the new pedestrian street reopens.

The street has been highlighted by the city council as a showcase for Norway’s first emission-free construction site. The municipality has spent more than 12 million on electrical construction machinery.

But 5,000 square meters of cobblestones have been shipped from India. The environment was not a requirement when the stone was purchased.

The street described by the city council as “Norway’s first emission-free construction site” opens on Thursday. It is paved with 5000 square meters of stone from India.

Several major streets in central Oslo are being upgraded by a billion. Storgata will be as good as new next fall. The door of Olav Vs has already become like this.

The short street between the National Theater and Rådhusplassen has been partly turned into a pedestrian street, given new pavement and wide sidewalks. Officially opens on Thursday.
