In early October, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air announced that it would enter the Norwegian domestic market.

Due to Wizz Air’s working conditions, there has been much debate about the airline’s entry into Norway.

Therefore, various individuals and organizations have reported that they are boycotting the airline, including Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

The Red Party has announced that they do not want employees of the Oslo municipality to use Wizz Air during their business trips.

“The Municipality of Oslo will not use Wizz Air and other companies that refuse to allow their employees to organize for business trips until they are sure of the professional organization of their employees,” states in the proposal that emerged in the city hall on Wednesday.

The newspaper now writes that the council parties Arbeiderpartiet, MDG and SV have supported the proposal.

Fagbladet has previously mentioned that the Liberal Party and the Center Party supported the proposal when it came up in the finance committee.

This means that there is a majority in the city council to boycott the Hungarian airline.

Unofficial boycott

City councilor Raymond Johansen told E24 that the airline’s business model is in conflict with serious regulations in the Oslo municipality, and that the Oslo municipality is already boycotting the company.

– Since Wizz Air started with domestic routes in Norway, I have made it clear that these companies are destroying the Norwegian working life model, and have asked people to think twice before opting to use the company.

Although the municipality has not officially adopted a boycott of the airline, Johansen believes that it is good that the majority in the city agree, and that they are clear in their opposition to this type of business.

– It is good with competition in aviation, but it should happen on equal terms, and not through social dumping, he says.
