Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven gives the Public Health Authority the opportunity to ban visits to nursing homes in highly infected regions.
The measure was presented at a press conference on Thursday.
– When the national restraining order was lifted, the spread of infection was much less than now. Now we are in a different situation, says the Swedish Prime Minister.
He notes that a restraining order on what is in practice the nursing home is a highly intrusive measure. Therefore, we do not want to introduce it at the national level, but rather make an assessment from one place to another.
– There is a time when we can start living like before again, but it is not now. Not yet.
– Now it is necessary to be able to enter a restraining order. Now we are faced with a very dangerous virus that has already claimed thousands of lives in our country. People’s lives are at stake, says Löfven.
At the same time, it says that exceptions will be made for spouses and girlfriends.
19 new deaths
19 new deaths were reported in Sweden on Thursday, and with that, a total of 6,340 people died from the coronavirus.
A total of 201,055 people have been infected with the virus in the country.
All regions of Sweden now have tighter measures after the infection has recently increased dramatically.
Last week, the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven, introduced a bar stop starting at 10pm. On Monday, the prime minister announced a ban on the eight-person assembly.
