This fall, the actor is on tour with the National Theater, which held improv theater at the Oseana Center for Art and Culture in Bjørnafjorden municipality last weekend.
After Saturday’s performance, he spent the night at Solstrand Hotel & Bad. But the next day, he woke up to an unexpected phone call from the infection control office in Oslo – he had been sitting near a corona-infected person on a plane a week earlier.
Os & Fusaposten mentioned the case first.
It was not wanted in the hotel
Wermskog was told to stay home for five days. But the problem was that the actor was not at his home in Oslo, but in a hotel on the other side of the country.
Therefore, he was strictly instructed by the Oslo infection control office to stay in the hotel room.
– I thought it had to be perfectly fine, he tells NRK.
The next day, however, he received another stern message that knocked on his hotel room door. They didn’t want him at Solstrand Hotel & Bad. The beach hotel was not a quarantine hotel.
– You go into nothing. You feel lost There is no plan for you. The logical thing for me was to stay, but I did not succeed, he says.
Leaving the hotel was not an easy task in the situation he was in. In quarantine, he was not allowed to move freely.
He was rescued by firefighter
Wermberg was in contact with the infection control doctor in Bjørnafjorden municipality. The actor himself proposed to be transferred to the crown hotel in Bergen, but according to Wermskog, the municipality had no such “exchange agreement” with Bergen.
He just felt rejected and unwanted in a foreign village.
But on Monday, the municipality decided to move the actor to a secluded place in Os to complete the quarantine period there.
To recover, he had to be escorted out of the hotel by a firefighter wearing gloves, a visor, and full infection control gear. From there they took him in a small fire truck, explains the comedian.
– On the way they told me that they had bought pizza, bread and cold cuts. But the problem was, she had so many allergies that she couldn’t eat anything. And it was an hour to walk to the store. So I had to send the firefighter to the store with a shopping tag, he says.
The place he was taken turned out to be a disused apartment complex for the mentally retarded in Askvikneset, which had been converted into quarantine apartments at the beginning of the pandemic.
Escaped in the end
He spent his time in the quarantine apartment walking, jogging, and listening to podcasts. He had neither television nor internet, and therefore had plenty of time to hatch an escape plan. Wermberg wants to escape as quickly as possible.
After 24 hours of solitude in the quarantine department, the actor was able to negotiate a solution with the municipality.
He was allowed to cross the mountain if he could get to Flesland on his own, where a rental car awaited him.
– The fireman said you should call him when you need him. And now was the time for that, he says.
The firefighter once again became the hero of the actor and took him to Flesland.
– Must take into account 120 employees
NRK was unable to get a comment from Solstrand Hotell & Bad on Friday night, but the hotel manager, Børrea Schau-Larsen, told Os and Fusaposten that it was necessary to ask him to leave the hotel.
– Since the corona infection situation is now in Norway, this was the only correct thing that could be done. In addition to other guests, we have 120 employees to remember to pay attention to. So it goes without saying that we don’t know of a possible corona infection living here, Schau-Larsen tells the newspaper.
Back in oslo
On Friday, the actor is back in Oslo. His quarantine period ended and the corona test came back negative.
The story was enthusiastically featured on the Berrum & Beyer podcast earlier this week. The duo already announced then that this story only “must be on NRK”.
