BUCURESTI (VG) Martin Ødegaard (21) could theoretically have been relevant to Austria’s match on Wednesday. You have documentation that you have had coronavirus.

After a strong warning from Bent Høie on Saturday night, Norway’s match against Romania was canceled. This is because the national team is in quarantine after Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive for coronavirus on Friday morning.

Instead of boarding private jets together to Bucharest, the national team players on Sunday take scheduled flights to their different club teams at different times.

It is true that there are some exceptions. Players who have been infected with coronavirus in the last six months follow different quarantine regulations than the rest. In other words, they are relevant to traveling to Austria with a possible “emergency national team” until the Nations League final on Wednesday.

Three players in the squad are already known to have had the virus: Per Kristian Bråtveit, Jens Petter Hauge and Morten Thorsby. The latter succeeded in March, which is why he has been out of quarantine for a long time.

But in addition to the trio, it now appears that Ødegaard also had the virus. On the night of September 23, it was learned that the Real Madrid player had tested positive for coronavirus, but a subsequent test was negative. The same happened with the third.

Now, however, the press manager of the national team, Svein Graff, informs VG that Ødegaard has had coronavirus.

– The antibody test showed he had a crown, says Graff.

The Government states that “if you can document that you have been subjected to COVID-19 in the last six months, the rules on entry quarantine, quarantined hotels, requirements for a negative test when entering Norway and infection quarantine do not apply to you”.

“You are required to present proof that you were ill, which was done when you were ill. The positive test must be at least 4 weeks old. A post-illness test that can document that you have been ill is not enough. In other words, so-called antibody tests are not accepted ”, it is further stated.

VG knows that Ødegaard has sufficient documentation that the rules do not apply to him.

It is still too early to determine if this means he will be part of a possible squad against Austria.

– It has not commented on the matter. Now he has just been rejected for international play and the club wants him to come back as soon as possible, and what happens with the Austrian match has not been clarified, says Svein Graff.

Real Madrid play Villarreal away in La Liga on Saturday. Federico Valverde’s injury and Isco’s weak form make Ødegaard sail forward as a player of great relevance to start the match.

As VG has reported, these circumstances make it irrelevant for Ødegaard to join a Norwegian emergency national team in Vienna for a match on Wednesday night.

P.S! On Saturday, VG was able to announce that Ødegaard has become part of the captain’s team of the national team along with Stefan Johansen, Omar Elabdellaoui and Joshua King.
