There have been 43 new cases of coronavirus infection in Bergen, Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor Party) said during a press conference on the coronavirus situation on Saturday.

– The current number of 43 is the highest number of new infected that we have registered, says Valhammer.

– The infection situation is serious. The coronavirus is deadly. We fear more deaths.

Valhammer further claims that the Bergen municipality had 222 new infections this week.

– Although there are no completely comparable sizes in terms of the test criteria that were the basis this spring, 222 new cases of infection in Bergen in one week are quite serious when, in comparison, there were 278 cases in Bergen during all of March.

Councilor Roger Valhammer, Councilor for Health Beate Husa and Medical Director Trond Egil Hansen attended the press conference.

Of the 43 newly infected, six are over 60 and 17 are over 40.

Four residents and a Gartnermarken Omsorgpluss employee are also infected, reports health advisor Beate Husa.

– This means that five residents of the nursing home have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, says Husa.

– This emphasizes seriousness. The infection has reached vulnerable groups and the effort we are in together now is about showing solidarity with those who are vulnerable among us, he says.

The Norwegian Board of Health notes that detecting the infection has become more complicated because there are many infected people from different backgrounds.

Medical Director Trond Egil Hansen also reports on the infection status:

– Now they are serious people. For those of you who are infected: follow the rules to the letter. For the rest of you: Follow the general rules and keep a record of those with whom you have had contact.

Here are the infection control measures in Bergen:

• Private events with more than 10 people are prohibited. Before, the limit was 20.
• Public events cannot collect more than a maximum of 50, where up to 200 are recommended nationally.
• Masks are recommended on city buses, trains, and light rail. Bars and restaurants must carry visitor lists.
• It is re-adjusted for nursing home and hospital visits.
• All companies and institutions are requested to establish a home office within the next ten days.
• The measures that are now being introduced will initially last until September 18.
