Now the snow is coming to southern Norway

It’s less than two weeks until it is officially winter, and this week people living in the eastern lowlands of Norway will also get a taste of what the season brings.

From night to Tuesday and during the morning of Tuesday there will be rainfall throughout southern Norway south of Stadt and Dovre.

While the precipitation in western Norway and in Agder will come mainly in the form of rain, it will come as sleet and snow in eastern Norway.

– On Tuesday morning you have to take care of the driving conditions. The snowline is relatively low, and sleet and snow have been reported across much of eastern Norway, warns meteorologist Lillian Bergheim at StormGeo.

Danger warning

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued five snow hazard warnings. For the Østfold, Oslo, Akershus, Buskerud, Oppland and Hedmark areas, the institute states that 5-15 cm of snow is expected in areas where everything comes in the form of snow.

A snow warning was also issued in the Sogn og Fjordane, Vestfold and Telemark, Hordaland, Agder, Ryfylke and Dalane areas.

– A little further offshore in eastern Norway, the day can start with sleet and snow before precipitation finally turns to rain south of Lake Mjøsa, Bergheim tells TV 2.

– Oslo may wake up to snow and sleet, but probably only sleet, he says.

Bergheim says that the precipitation that arrives in Hordaland, Agder and Rogaland, will come in the form of snow at more than 300-500 meters.

As in Oslo, the precipitation in Telemark can reach the lowlands, and can arrive on Monday night.

Snow day

While the precipitation south of Lake Mjøsa will come in the form of rain throughout the day on Tuesday, the precipitation north of the lake will come in the form of sleet and snow, Bergheim says.

More temperate weather has been reported in Sørlandet and Vestlandet throughout the day on Tuesday, meaning the snow line will rise to almost 1,000 meters.

On Tuesday afternoon, the snow line in eastern Norway is expected to rise to 400-600 meters, the meteorologist says.

Better in the north

In Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag, Tuesday will be mainly to stay at home, before it is cloudy for the day. Further south, in Trøndelag, there will be some snow and sleet overnight on Tuesday.

The part of the country that will have the best climate in the coming days is Northern Norway.

– There will be time of stay and periods of sunshine in Nordland and Troms, and in Finnmark there will be some snow and downpour in some areas, otherwise there will be time of stay on Tuesday and Wednesday, says Bergheim.

On Thursday, sleet and snow are expected in the inland areas of Nordland and Troms, and eventually Finnmarksvidda as well. While in the outdoor areas it will be a climate to stay at home.

Precipitation expected to bring snow in Nordland on Thursday draws Finnmark on Friday.

10 grade

During the week, milder weather, up to 10 degrees, is expected in both western Norway and eastern Norway. This means that the precipitation will come as rain and downpours on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Snow does not stay long in the lowlands.

However, the sun returns to southern Norway before it is the weekend and the precipitation has passed. On Friday, good weather is reported again.

– However, there may be rainfall in western Norway on Friday, but it is too early to say anything about now, says Bergheim.
