The new passport will be more difficult to counterfeit due to various security features built into the passport.
– This is an important crime prevention measure. It helps prevent identity misuse and serious crimes, such as work-related crimes, human trafficking and terrorism, says Assistant Police Director Håkon Skulstad, according to a press release.
The new passports have the kingdom’s names in Bokmål, Nynorsk, Sami and English.

To get a new passport, you can now book an appointment at police.no or apply for a passport at one of the passport and identity card offices in Norway. According to the police, 79 passport and identity card offices have been established.
– The passport you have today is valid until the expiration date and is still a good and safe travel document. You don’t need to apply for a new passport before the old one expires, says Skulstad.
A new passport currently costs NOK 570 for adults and NOK 342 for children under 16 years of age. The passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue.

Last year, at least 12 Norwegian passports were misused in Norway, according to the National Identification Center.
Along with a new passport design, the police have implemented a number of measures to strengthen security when issuing new passports. The measures include new biometric kiosks and automatic comparison of biometric data.
Biometric characteristics are parts of your body that are unique and fairly permanent.
You must, among other things, submit your fingerprints when applying for a new passport. Your fingerprint is stored on a chip in your passport and can be read by other people later.
The passides are characterized by panoramic Norwegian landscapes, some with northern lights appearing under ultraviolet light. Neue Design Studio has designed the passes.
New passports and new national ID cards were originally supposed to be ready in December 2016, but have been postponed multiple times. The national ID card is scheduled for November.
