Those who can expect more frequent audit visits include the fishing industry, shipyards, auto care and construction. These stand out as industries with a high risk of import infection.
– We will now prioritize these, says Director Trude Vollheim of the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority, who now dispatches her inspectors to verify that infection control is being followed in Norwegian workplaces.
– Infection control in relation to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will be monitored from now on in all our planned audits, says Vollheim.
coercive fine
Since the summer, the Labor Inspection has controlled compliance with covid-19 regulations in more than 300 audits, most of them within accommodation and service. The Authority has issued 121 decisions on orders, and seven of them have been followed up with periodic penalty payments because the orders have not been carried out within the established deadlines.
Those who violate infection control regulations will now have short deadlines to implement measures to prevent the spread of the infection, Vollheim emphasizes.
– If on inspection we discover that employers are still not doing what they are supposed to do to prevent employees from being exposed to infection, we will issue orders with very short deadlines and earlier than in a normal situation we will use periodic penalty payments and stoppages if deadlines are not met. , he warns.
– Where no measures have been implemented to prevent the infection of employees, we can stop immediately due to the imminent danger to the life and health of employees.
Document the risk assessment
Employers who are now being monitored must document that they have mapped and assessed the risk of spreading the coronavirus and prepared plans and implemented measures to eliminate or reduce the risk.
In addition, the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority will check whether the adaptation is justifiable with regard to infection control in companies where this is relevant.
– All employers must ensure that employee infection control is taken care of. This is important both for the individual employee and to prevent further spread of the infection, says Vollheim.
