Pfizer / BioNTech reports that Norway will receive just under 50,000 doses of vaccine over Christmas.
This includes the around 10,000 doses from the first delivery that have already been notified, the Ministry of Health and Sanitary Services says in a press release.
The Ministry emphasizes that deliveries assume that the vaccine is approved and deliveries are going as planned.
– I am glad that we already receive even more doses of vaccines in the Christmas space. In principle, these doses should be enough to give a first dose to all residents of nursing homes in Norway, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
This is how the population of Oslo will be vaccinated
– Distributed throughout the country
For practical reasons, the first 10,000 doses are used in the Oslo area.
The remaining doses will be distributed in accordance with the NIPH recommendation, and will be distributed throughout the country, the ministry says.
Pfizer / BioNTech reports that the delivery of the first 10,000 doses will arrive on December 26 and not on Christmas Eve, as previously estimated. This will not cause delays in vaccination plans.
– predictability
Pfizer also reports that Norway and the other EU countries in January will receive around 40,000 doses a week, the ministry writes.
– This will provide greater predictability to municipalities, which will prepare and plan for this important vaccination effort. I have a strong understanding that municipalities find it demanding to plan when there are so many uncertainties, says the Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie.
This is due, among other things, to uncertainties related to the production capacity of vaccine suppliers and the distribution and approval of vaccines.
The National Institute of Public Health will stay in contact with county governors’ vaccination coordinators about upcoming deliveries, the ministry says. There will still be some uncertainty about production and approval.
– Three weeks
In Oslo, there are 4,100 residents in nursing homes and therefore everyone who says yes will be offered the vaccine as soon as vaccination starts.
According to health adviser Robert Steen in Oslo, the plan is for all nursing home residents to be vaccinated with the first dose in mid-January.
– From the first bite, three weeks should pass until the second dose is established. After the second dose, it takes about a week before the vaccine takes full effect. And therefore, most people will be able to have the full effect of the vaccine by the end of January, Steen tells Dagbladet.
