Norway continues to slow down direct flights from the UK

The case is being updated.

This is stated by the Ministry of Health and Attention Services to NTB. The flight stop can be continued until after the New Year.

– It is still necessary to maintain the measures so that we buy time to acquire more knowledge about the virus and prevent a possible spread in Norway, says the Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie (H) in a press release.

On Monday, the government introduced a 48-hour ban on passengers flying from the UK to Norway. The ban was later extended until the 3rd of Christmas and now extends even further until December 29.

The shutdown came after a new variant of the coronavirus recently spread in London and south-east England. The mutation is estimated to be 70 percent more contagious than the original variant.

– As the situation is now we do not have the capacity to assess all travelers coming from the UK at the border. This could lead to a lack of control over the spread of the new, significantly more contagious variant of the virus, Høie says.

The Norwegian Health Directorate has been tasked with assessing whether the closure should continue. The evaluation is used as the basis for the government’s decision.
