Nominated for First Place: – A Deadly Sin

Kari Elisabeth Kaski (33) is unanimously nominated for first place on the SV Oslo parliamentary list.

This was clear even before the nominating committee presented its final draft on Tuesday.

Kaski confirms Dagbladet at the top of the list. Since Kristin Halvorsen, Oslo SV has not had a unanimous recommendation from the top of the list, and Kaski says he has big ambitions for the election.

– I have the objective that four members of the SV enter the Storting from Oslo. It will be a record and, of course, very ambitious. There are probably many who sweat a bit at the party when I say this, because it is a mortal sin to set such specific goals. But I think it can be done, he says.

Today, there are two SV members on the Oslo bank in Løvebakken: Kaski and Petter Eide.

It will not be a support party

Kari Elisabeth Kaski lost in our SV deputy leader match to Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes, but she has an advanced position as the party’s fiscal policy spokesperson. She has been central in the negotiations on crisis packages and oil packages during the crown crisis this spring.

Kaski says SV should aspire to government power after next year’s elections, and does not believe at all in the role of a party supporting a Labor / Socialist government.

– It is not interesting for us to be a party supporting a conservative Labor / Socialist government, as I see it. SV can mobilize for a broader, redder and greener coalition, and I think we should.

Requires a clearer platform

SV sank in the polls during the government period from 2005 to 2013. In eight years in office, the party’s size fell by more than half, from 8.8 percent in 2005 to an electoral result of 4.1 in 2013.

Power was expensive and party leader Audun Lysbakken had to spend several years fighting both the barrier and the right.

Today, the situation is reminiscent of 2005: in an average of the August 2020 polls, SV has a support of 7.3 percent. However, Kaski is confident that a new red-green government will not contribute to the same voter flight and migration to the desert.

– SV has shown in Oslo that we can grow by being in a position, that we can make our most important problems visible in that way. We will carry that experience with us in a possible new government. For SV, the fight for a fairer society and lower emissions will always be the most important thing, and we better show our politics sitting in position.

– So the burned children do not stay away from the government fire?

– The Soria Moria platform was unique for its time, but this time we must have a clearer platform, with concrete plans for a fairer society and cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. If we do, I don’t think history repeats itself on SV’s part. I believe that we will be further strengthened if we are in government, says Kaski.

Reject the coldness

That the strong forces in the Center Party do not want to sit in the government with SV, and party leader Trygve Slagsvold Vedum has said that the goal is the power of the government with Labor, and only with Labor.

– I think it should be completely possible to form a government with the Labor Party and the Socialist People’s Party because they share SV’s goal of a fairer society and less emissions. It is the core of our policy and it should be the core of a common governance platform. It’s about going to the polls on politics that we know will pay off, says Kaski.

– The Center Party shares the goals of SV in climate policy, right?

– Yes, far from that. We may have slightly different language and different policies, but we want lower emissions. What we discuss the most is how far we should go, not the goal itself.
