– I was very surprised when they informed us about the infection. But we stopped the celebration immediately and wanted to help ensure that everyone with the infection could be traced, writes Sadiq Baker Alezairjawi, director of the Al-Ghadir Islamic Center in Østfold in a press release.
In total, more than a hundred people are already infected after a celebration in the center this weekend. At most, about 170 people gathered to pray, read the Quran and eat during the celebration that took place this weekend.
– I have been clear in telling members that everyone will help prevent further spread by testing and adhering to quarantine rules, writes Alezairjawi.
Be careful
The rector writes in the press release, which has been sent through the municipality, that they have tried to be careful with hygiene and infection control.
– Antibac has been available and we have been very concerned about keeping our distance, not crowding each other or having close contact. We have also been clear that the sick should stay at home. None of the participants had symptoms of coronary heart disease, says Alezairjawi.
Several hundred quarantined
Almost 300 people have been quarantined in connection with the outbreak.
This includes students and employees of five schools in Sarpsborg, a nursing home and a nursery, according to the municipality.
In the nursing home, an employee is infected. All twelve residents of the ward where the person works have been examined and none have detected infection.
Furthermore, the infection has now been discovered in seven schools and a kindergarten in Fredrikstad.
Double dose may affect Norway
Considering the reaction
Mayor Sindre Martinsen Evje writes in the press release that the municipality is now considering whether to react to Al-Ghadir.
-We are happy to work well with the director and the affected environment, so that we can prevent further infection in society, writes Evje.
– When the outbreak ends, we will take time to collect all the facts. We will then decide if it becomes relevant with a way of reaction to the organizer of the celebration.
