NIPH: Spread of infection remains low despite outbreaks in some municipalities

– Despite outbreaks and local clusters, we do not see an increase in hospital admissions, intensive care unit admissions or COVID-19-associated deaths, says department director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health .

One explanation is that the infection in recent weeks has occurred primarily in younger people at low risk for severe disease. Another explanation may be that many more people are being tested and that extensive infection monitoring work means that we are now discovering more people infected with milder disease courses than before, Vold continues.

R of 0.78

On Wednesday, the National Institute of Public Health presented a report on the situation of the crown in week 35.

374 people were diagnosed with corona infection last week. During the last two weeks, the number of infected is 13.6 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The infection number r, which indicates how many people each infected person transmits, is estimated to be 0.78 after August 1.

In the last four weeks, the number of reported cases has been between 356 and 374, despite the fact that there has been a significant increase in the number of tests performed in recent weeks.

The infection occurs mainly in relation to local outbreaks, but also among people who have been infected abroad, mainly in countries covered by the quarantine obligation, the report indicates.

Increase in six counties

Six counties have had an increase in reported cases in the last week. These are Innlandet, Agder, Møre og Romsdal, Viken, Vestfold and Telemark and Oslo.

There has been a decrease in Vestland, Rogaland, Trøndelag and Nordland, while the figures have been unchanged in Troms and Finnmark.

Oslo still has the highest infection rate compared to the population. Here now there are 34 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

Information about the country in which you have been infected is only available for just over half of new cases in the last two weeks. Of these, 82% have been infected in Norway and 18 abroad.

67 cases of corona have been recorded in people who have traveled in “red” countries that require quarantine upon entering Norway, while there are four cases among people who have been in “yellow” countries.
