NFF calls on clubs to put teams in isolation

This is confirmed by the Norwegian Football Association.

– It is true that we have strongly asked the clubs to consider this, says NFF Competition Director Nils Fisketjønn to NRK.

It emphasizes that it is only a request, and that those who as a union cannot order the teams to isolate themselves.

Clubs also cannot order their players to isolate themselves.

– It would be a measure that penetrates the individual private sphere. We can encourage and seek to facilitate a type of isolation, he says in a comment.

However, the NFF has asked clubs to explore the possibilities of doing so after Norwegian football has recently experienced several cases of coronary heart disease, which has also led to postponements of matches.

He was informed on Monday night

Recently, the Norwegian Football Association decided that the series finale in the Elite Series should be moved to December 22 and that the qualifying match for the last Elite Series spot will be played at Christmas.

The final round was originally scheduled for December 19.

– If we get more postponements than they already are, we will fight. Then we talked about space Christmas, Fisketjønn said when asked about more postponements.

YMCA top division club general manager Thor-Erik Stenberg tells NRK that general managers were informed of the request through a meeting with Norsk Toppfotball on Monday night.

It is currently unclear how this will work in practice, but the NFF has announced that it will return with more information to clubs on Tuesday.

– We don’t know much else that NFF has recommended that we consider a form of isolation. We started to see how we could achieve this in practice immediately after the meeting and we have worked with this throughout Monday night, says Stenberg.

Support the measure

– Have you contacted players about this?

– Yes, we have informed the players and planned if possible in terms of work and studies. The vast majority are already in the home office or have home studios, so it seems doable. Then there are some who, for example, live by public transportation, which we need to monitor more, says the YMCA leader.

Stenberg believes that a measure that puts the best clubs in isolation may be prudent in the current situation.

– For our part, it seems sensible. We have three very important games left that we want to see happen, and I think this can be a good solution, he says.

On Monday, three Odd players tested positive for the coronavirus. In addition, Fredrik Nordkvelle in the same club has also been infected by covid-19.

There have also been cases of infection in Brann, Strømsgodset and Viking, among others. Bodø / Glimt and Rosenborg have also had infected players on national team assignments.

In the 1st division, there have been several outbreaks in Kongsvinger, Åsane and Jerv.

NRK has been in contact with a number of elite league clubs about the matter, but has so far failed to obtain comment.
