Last week, the Foreign Ministry extended the advice to avoid unnecessary trips abroad until May 15. Aviation analyst Hans Jørgen Elnæs fears a new extension.
– I will not be surprised if it is extended until June, and it can be very serious for the airlines. If people cannot travel abroad, companies will lose big revenue, Elnæs tells E24 / VG.
The aviation analyst says that the situation now can hardly get worse for the industry. He believes that a new round of government funding or problems may be necessary to overcome the dire financial situation the industry is in.
However, SAS has seen growing optimism in the market, with Norwegians booking trips towards the end of the summer and fall. The airline plans to increase the level of activity as the partnership likely reopens during the summer, says press manager John Eckhoff at SAS.
– We continuously evaluate demand and we had planned to open new routes during Easter. Now we have to see how travel advice plays out, he says.
Widerøe says they are fully committed to summer and believe that Norwegians should prepare for a new summer characterized by holidays in Norway.
