Tighter infection control measures are being introduced in Bodø municipality. The other municipalities of Salten will also have a high level of measures in the future.

Crisis management in the Bodø municipality, in consultation with the infection control director, decided on Friday to introduce the most stringent infection control measures into crown regulations.

– It was difficult to reach this conclusion, but now incredibly important steps are being taken, said Mayor Ida Pinnerød.

She understands that the measures will feel very intrusive and cause uncertainty for some.

– But it is incredibly important now that everyone does everything they can to help eliminate the virus. I sincerely hope this is the last proper round of measures in Salten, he noted.

Introduces regional measures in ten municipalities in Nordland

The infection control doctor in Bodø municipality, Kai Brynjar Hagen, is clear that the situation is dire.

– The infection control professional in this situation has been thoroughly discussed in the municipality, with the state administrator, the National Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Health Directorate. They are fully in line with us when it comes to this decision now that we have not yet succeeded in quelling the outbreak, he said during the press conference:

According to Hagen, they have failed to re-pinch quickly enough.

– The infection spreads before we get rid of it, he noted.

British variant

During Friday, the municipality of Bodø received evidence that the mutated British variant has reached Bodø.

– It does not improve the situation. We now have two mutated types that are contagious. And those who know about viruses are likely to be more concerned about them mixing with each other, he said.

The new measures apply from midnight and, for now, for a week.

At the same time, the municipality of Bodø has taken the initiative of a coordination in Salten and, in collaboration with the other municipalities of Salten, has asked the government for coordinated measures for the region. This means that the municipalities of Salten will also have a high level of measures.

This was done after a meeting between the municipalities of Salten on Friday afternoon, in which the State Administrator also participated.

The new measures in the regulations for the municipality of Bodø largely correspond to Chapter 5A of the Crown Regulations, which deals with a particularly high level of measures.

– The reason is that they have failed to quell the ongoing outbreak of the South African variant of the virus in Bodø. The regulations for the municipality of Bodø will apply from midnight on Friday, and for the time being for a week, the municipality indicates
