– Guests must provide their name, telephone number and address or municipality of residence, which must be Bærum. We think this is preferable rather than shutting down completely, municipal director Bente Herdlevær tells NRK.

He also says the municipality trusts people to be honest.

I lost sleep at night

– The figure is very worrying and in line with the trend that we see both in Oslo and in the rest of Eastern Norway.

Here’s what Bærum’s municipal chief doctor, Frantz Leonard Nilsen, says after the municipality has been diagnosed with a series of new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.

On Thursday morning the news came that 35 people in the municipality of Bærum had been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The number of infected from the previous day doubles.

– I found out about the infection cases last night. It took me a night of sleep, but now I have received more information and it turns out that almost all those infected are close contacts from previous cases of infection. Several of the new cases of infection have already been quarantined for some time.

Almost no party

At Asker Upper Secondary School, which is just a few kilometers from Bærum, 65 students have been quarantined after two parties this weekend. According to Nilsen’s colleague at Asker, Meera Grepp, even more can be quarantined.

– Currently there are about 65, but we are still tracking, Grepp writes in a message to NTB.

Nilsen tells Dagbladet that party-related infection among young people has barely occurred in Bærum since the pandemic hit the country.

– The young people of Bærum have not lived up to their reputation. Almost none of the contagion cases that we have had in the municipality can be related to the party among young people. What we have experienced is that some young people from Bærum have been infected in connection with parties outside the municipality.

Concerned

Although Nilsen claims that young people are not responsible for most of the spread of the infection, like the experts, he worries that the infection will continue to increase.

– What we see now is possibly the beginning of a third wave. At the same time, the mutated virus means that we can get even higher infection rates than we have already seen. I won’t be surprised if that happens.

At the same time, the municipal chief doctor admits that it will be relevant to tighten the measures in Bærum if the trend continues. We monitor the situation day by day and will not hesitate to propose more closures if the strong increase in infection persists.

– I would recommend it to politicians, but so far we will not do it as much as they have done in Oslo, Lillestrøm and Lørenskog.
