On Wednesday afternoon, the city of Oslo announces that it will hold a press conference on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Councilor Raymond Johansen will report on the infection situation in Oslo.
Between 40 and 50 new cases per day have been registered in Oslo in recent weeks. Two and a half weeks ago, measures were introduced to prevent the spread of the infection. A week and a half ago, new measures were introduced after pressure from health authorities.
– We should have wanted the infection rates to go down a bit. But the good news is that it appears to have been relatively stable during this period. We probably think we’ve seen an effect from the first measures, then more measures were introduced, which is too early to see the effect now, department director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health tells Dagbladet.
Too tall
Health Minister Bent Høie tells Dagbladet that he thinks the number of new cases per day in Oslo has been too high.
– In my opinion, the situation in Oslo was at too high a stable level last week, Høie tells Dagbladet and continues:
– It is too early to make a final assessment of the effect of these measures. But I am glad that the measures have been strengthened thanks to the fact that the municipalities around Oslo have essentially introduced the same measures.
On October 12, Norway will continue the gradual reopening of the company. If the infection situation in Oslo does not improve before then, we can see an opposite development in the capital.
– I hope that in the next few days we will see the effect of the measures. If we don’t, then of course both myself and the Oslo city council leader are closely monitoring the situation and constantly assessing the need for further measures, says Health Minister Høie.
Important days
Health director Bjørn Guldvog tells Dagbladet that he is not comfortable with the level of infection in Oslo at the moment.
– I am not comfortable with the level of infection. Naturally, we want infection rates to be lowered even further, and I am sure we will share that ambition with Oslo, Guldvog tells Dagbladet.
Guldvog believes that it will be important to monitor the situation closely in the coming days.
– It is difficult to assess the effect of the package of measures. After entering a package of measures, you must wait two weeks before you can say anything certain about the effect. I am very happy that the Municipality of Oslo has carried out a comprehensive evaluation, which led them to take the action they took a week ago.
– It will be very important to follow the situation in the coming days. I am very sure that the Oslo city council will do it; of course, we will also give you advice if you wish.
