The Serbian newspaper has noted in the goalkeeping training of the Norwegian team. Now goalkeeping coach Frode Grodås responds to the briefs.

ULLEVAAL STADIUM (Nettavisen): Thursday night is clear for Norway’s much-talked about fateful match against Serbia.

In the Serbian team, it is forward Aleksandar Mitrovic who is highlighted as perhaps the greatest threat by experts. The Fulham forward has a habit of doing well for the national team and has scored 35 goals in his 57 games.

The Serbian media believe that the Norwegian team is afraid of Mitrovic and now one of the major newspapers has made a major problem of Norway’s goalkeeping training at Ullevaal this week.

The Serbian daily Telegraf reports that the Norwegian goalkeepers are preparing in a special way due to the upcoming meeting with Mitrovic.

The newspaper refers to Norway’s own video clips on Instagram of Tuesday’s goalkeeping training, where goalkeepers Rune Jarstein and André Hansen practice catching posts in front of the goal between some plastic dolls.

Grodås rejects

The national team coach, Frode Grodås, starts to laugh a little when Nettavisen talks about watching the Serbian newspaper.

The former goalkeeper of the Norwegian team is clear that the exercise is not intended to be a special training prior to the meeting with the Serbian power forward.

– We don’t have that much respect for them, says Grodås to Nettaivsen.

– Definitely Mitrovic is a good man, but this is something we do in almost every training session, says the Norwegian goalkeeping coach.

Grodås explains that on Tuesday they practiced in insertion situations near the goal, while on Wednesday they will execute a similar drill with balls inside the box a little further from the goal.

He explains that they have mostly normal preparations for the Serbian match, but that they have identified some dangers.

– Our task as coaches is to show a picture of what we expect (from Serbia). As you write, they are big pink guys who are good at boxing, and then they have good shooters. They can shoot from an unexpected and longer range. That’s probably what comes in addition to the usual focus, but we focus more on ourselves, says Grodås.

Grodås on Jarstein’s situation: – Not ideal

It will probably be German pro Rune Jarstein who regains confidence between the positions in Thursday’s showdown against the Serbs.

In recent years, Jarstein has impressed in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin, but this season the Norwegian has been sent to the bench.

Goalkeeping coach Grodås acknowledges that there is no favorable situation for Jarstein.

– Now no equipment has been removed, but if you ask for Rune it is not ideal. Ideally, he should play in Germany and play every weekend, but it is part of life, says Grodås.

The former goalkeeper says that he himself knows well what Jarstein is now experiencing in the club’s team.

– Now you are talking to someone who has been in the same situation a lot. I’m not worried about this in the short term. He trains on the job, but it’s not ideal, says Grodås.

At the same time, the goalkeeping coach makes sure that Jarstein has been in the game for a long time.

– He has been with us for so long and has a lot of experience. He knows what it takes, what to do and what to expect, says Grodås.

The agreement between Norway and Serbia begins on Thursday at 8:45 p.m. If Norway beat Serbia, Israel or Scotland they await a decisive playoff final.
