National team, Kjetil Rekdal | Rekdal asks the national team leadership to react to VG’s announcement:

Kjetil Rekdal believes that it is positive that there is a “slam” between the players and the national team management, but reacts strongly to the leak to the media. Now he asks the NFF to act.

It was VG who reported on Wednesday morning that there was a fierce dispute between national team coach Lars Lagerbäck and Norway’s profile Alexander Sørloth following a disappointing 1-2 loss to Serbia at Ullevaal Stadium.

Rekdal, who has played 83 A-national matches for Norway, does not mind that there is a high temperature between the team management and the players after a disappointing performance.

– It is clear that there is a limit to how much you should hit, but the disappointment and frustration are so great that it can be healthy if you hit a little, Rekdal tells Nettavisen.

– You can’t just be friends all the time and slap on the back in such an environment, it doesn’t work, says the former national team hero.

Reacts strongly to leaks

However, Rekdal believes that the NFF should take action as a result of this case.

He reacts strongly to the fact that the dispute between Sørloth and the management has been leaked to VG.

– That it goes out to the press is miserable, but there have been leaks in that environment for years, says Rekdal and points out, among other things, that the team withdrawals have often been given to TV 2 before games.

That an incident at a players’ meeting is now being published in the media annoys Rekdal.

– It is embarrassing for those who drive and filter this to the media. They have nothing to do with a national team. You have to find out who they are and kick them out of the squad. I think it’s embarrassing. It’s just embarrassing, Rekdal says.

DON'T WANT TO INSTALL: Ole Gunnar Solskjær should be little interested in silence for an interview with TV 2.

Former national team player Erik Huseklepp is also reacting to the leaks and doesn’t think it’s a good sign.

– Not good. It’s perfectly fine that there can be a bit of rowdy arguing and that you can tolerate it pounding a bit, but it’s very unfortunate that it came out, because it creates unnecessary noise, says Huseklepp.

Rekdal believes that the rosters of the national team should be reduced in the future to avoid dissatisfied players who may end up going to the press.

– You have 25 men in the collection that are there for 10-12 days and you use 13 of the players. So there are 10 men who are not involved in anything. I think he should reduce the team to 18-19 men and then he has to call more if necessary due to injuries. I would, says HamKam’s trainer.

– Must move on

However, Rekdal believes that the players tell the national team leadership what they think is very positive.

– But what do you think of Lagerbäck’s supposed reaction when facing the Cyprus party with Sørloth?

– It can be a provocative response. There are many ways to bring out the best in people. Whether it’s to defend himself or to make Sørloth turn on all the plugs to perform better and focus on the next match … When you’re not there, there’s a lot of speculation, says Rekdal.

NOT THE FIRST CHOICE: Paulo Dybala has started several games on the bench this season.

It is difficult for him to deal with the leaks as he believes they do not necessarily give a completely correct picture of what happened.

In any case, Rekdal is concerned that such an argument could have a positive long-term effect.

– I’m a little happy that I hit that gang over there a bit because they have lost all the decisive matches, says Rekdal.

HamKam’s coach has just hoped those involved will move on.

– It is important that they do not resent, get angry and try to destroy each other. Then it is ruined. But it’s absolutely perfect for it to boil a little and for things to pop up if it’s burned a little, Rekdal says.

He is supported by Huseklepp, who has played 36 games with the flag on his chest.

Huskeklepp says that the situation in the national team can be fixed, because all the outsiders know. He believes the focus should shift away from the dispute between Sørloth and the national team leadership.

– It is something that you can address in the next meeting, but I think it is best to look forward. And if they have handled it, I would advise them to come out easy and say that the situation has cleared up, and that they (Lagerbäck and Sørloth) have a good relationship and wait together, Huseklepp tells Nettavisen.

NFF Silence

Since Wednesday morning, the online newspaper has been in contact with the NFF and the press manager of the national team, Svein Graff, and offered to comment on VG’s claims.

As well as answering that they should come back to us, neither Graff nor assistant coach Per Joar Hansen have answered our questions.

The NFF has also not answered these specific questions at the time of writing: – Is it true that Lagerbäck said the following at the last Sørloth meeting:

“How dare you, who missed an open goal against Cyprus two years ago, to say anything?”

If so, is this something he advocates today, or does he agree with those who think this is an inappropriate form of response for his own player in an evaluation meeting?

– Based on what has emerged in VG, it does not appear that the technical team with Lars and Perry has a high ceiling for criticism. What do you mean by that?
